The Explorer program is an educational program for youth ages 14-19. The Explorer program is designed for youth with an interest in law enforcement. This program teaches youth about local laws, law enforcement knowledge, life skills, and leadership skills.

If accepted into our Explorer post, applicants MUST attend a one-time 5-week academy on Saturdays for nine hours each training day. The academy will start in March or April every year. If the applicant completes the 5-week academy, the applicant graduates & becomes a standing Explorer.

Learning/Training topics: Basic Colorado law, CPR, traffic control, city geography, building searches, crisis intervention, firearm safety, patrol procedures, leadership skills, teamwork skills, communication, and much more.

Explorers can participate in regional and out-of-state competitions. These competitions vary from patrol-based to tactical competitions with other Explorer posts nationwide. Explorers attend various trainings leading up to the competition. Explorers also help with community events, special requests from the Aurora Police Department, and conferences.

Annual Awards Ceremony

There is a annual Awards Ceremony where Explorers are recognized for their time put into the post, training, competing, conference attendance, dedication, commitment, and leadership to the post. The work Explorers do never goes unrecognized.
