Arapahoe County Volunteer Connections

Volunteer Connections has compiled a list of meaningful volunteer activities you can safely

Children’s Literacy Center

Make a difference by joining in the fight for
literacy! Volunteers to tutor children who are
struggling with their reading skills.

The Learning Source for Adults & Families

Are you searching for an opportunity to give back locally? The Learning Source needs dedicated people like you to join our existing volunteer pool of over 150 individualswho find it rewarding and meaningful to assist our adult students work towards their educational goals.

Aurora Interfaith Community Services

Volunteers are always needed at AICS and individuals must be 18 years of age. Tell us what you are good at and how much time you would like to spend volunteering and the Volunteer Coordinator will match your skills to a volunteer task. Work in the food pantry and clothing bank sorting
and stocking donations, or answer the phones as
an intake receptionist. Weekly commitments are
preferred, but substitute positions are available.
One-day family/group activities like inventory
counting, painting and carpet cleaning.

Aurora Warms The Night

Year round services include meals, warm
clothing, hygiene items, transportation to shelter,
laundry vouchers, bus passes, partner agency
referrals, and advocacy. AWTN shelters those are
homelessness in the winter when temperatures
reach 20 degrees or colder. Volunteer
opportunities include the Shower Trailer,
Breakfast Club and Summer Lunches.

Comitis Crisis Center/The Mile Hight Council

Assistance needed with cleaning, organizing,
moving and donations; minimal client contact.

Gateway Domestic Violence Services

Answer the crisis line and assist women and
children. Children’s program volunteers assist
counselors with children’s groups. Speaker’s
bureau, special events, fundraising and victim
advocate positions available.

Bluff Lake Nature Center

Education volunteers make science come alive
as they lead school field trips. Volunteer Spanish
translators help create Spanish versions of
materials and lead field trips, meetings and
education programs in Spanish. Volunteer
marketing assistant helps with events, social
media, design and distribution, and general office
work. Site stewards work with the site manager in
all aspects of natural resource management.

Aurora Community Connections

Tutors will help elementary school students improve their reading and writing skills through structured tutoring sessions. Past experience in tutoring or education is not required as all tutors will receive an initial, comprehensive training on how to use the Reading A-Z curriculum. Tutors will also receive ongoing training and support throughout their time with ACC to ensure proper implementation of the curriculum and ongoing development towards becoming a high-quality tutor.

The Salvation Army

Assist with clerical work, emergency services and
serving, pantry stocking and bagging as well as
holiday and kettle drive support in November
and December.

Goodwill Industries Of Denver

Help high school students in Aurora discover
their career path and succeed in the world
of work! Volunteers are needed to answer
questions from students about their careers as
part of a career panel or in a career fair, provide
mock interviewing practice, assist students with
resumes and mentoring. One time and ongoing
opportunities available.

Food Bank Of The Rockies

Distribution volunteers fill agency food orders;
reclamation volunteers sort, sanitize and inspect
food; Community Kitchen volunteers prepare
meals; Kids Café volunteers fill snack orders,
and pack backpacks and senior totes.

Project Angel Heart

Make a difference in the lives of Coloradans
living with life-threatening illnesses by being
a volunteer. Opportunities include Kitchen
Assistant, meal Delivery Driver, Office Assistant
and others. There is a six month commitment
for volunteers or sign up for a special event.
Orientation provided.

Volunteers Of America Meals On Wheels

Volunteers of America's Meals on Wheels program is in need of friendly and dependable volunteers who are looking to make a difference in the lives of home-bound seniors in their communities. The more volunteers who give their time, the more seniors in need receive hot, nutritious meals.

Food For Thought

Food for Thought provides students that qualify
for free or reduced lunches with a PowerSack each
Friday. For many students, this is the only food they
will have until school resumes on Monday morning.
Help Food for Thought by packing PowerSacks at
the Aurora location. Pack Lunches for Students.

Brent's Place

Volunteers are a key part of our success at Brent's Place. Our volunteers make a huge difference in the lives of families that come through our doors through their various acts of care and service. On behalf of the more than 200 families who call Brent's Place home, thank you!

Children’s Hospital Colorado

Join the dedicated volunteers who work regularly
to help make the hospital experience a little
less stressful for kids. A wealth of volunteer
opportunities are available.

Project C.U.R.E

Sort medical supplies, manage volunteer groups,
drive collection trucks, assist warehouse staff, visit
hospitals and surgery centers to collect supplies, and
help with international projects.

Rocky Mountain Fisher House

Fisher Houses provides military families housing
close to hospitals of loved ones. Prepare dinner for
guests, assist in fundraising events, gardening and
other opportunities as needs arise.

Ronald McDonald House

Although we typically offer multiple on-site volunteer opportunities to choose from within our Denver and Aurora Houses and Family Rooms, we have paused all on-site volunteer opportunities during the pandemic as we do our part to keep families and staff safe and healthy. We look forward to the time we can welcome volunteers back to perform a variety of activities from running the front desk to cooking meals for families.

University Of Colorado Hospital

Play an important and meaningful role in providing
care to patients and their loved ones as you give
of yourself for the betterment of others. There are
a wide variety of volunteer opportunities in both
clinical and non-clinical areas for administrative
and volunteering directly with patients. Many different opportunities.

Brothers Redevelopment

Paint the exterior of the home of a low-income
senior homeowner in Aurora.

Habitat For Humanity OF Metro Denver

Construction volunteers assist with building
homes; Aurora sites available. Home improvement
outlet volunteers stock, organize, take in donations
and assist customers.

Aurora Youth Options

AYO Mentor Program provides one-to-one
community based mentoring. Mentors are matched
based on similar interests and personality traits
with a youth. Matches meet up two times per
month. AYO Homework Help and Tutoring Program
provides tutors. Volunteer every Wednesday from
4 to 6 p.m. to provide homework assistance to
youth.

Big Brothers Big Sister Of Colorado

Community Mentoring and Sports Buddies
volunteers meet with mentees a few times a month
for at least one year.

Boys & Girls Clubs OF Metro Denver

Bessie's Hope

Volunteer within long-term care facilities in
Aurora, adopting individual elders or participating
in group interaction. Volunteers serve on event
committees and help with administrative tasks.

Brookdale Hospice

If you’re looking for a place that celebrates your calling to help others, you’ve found it in Brookdale Hospice. Many of our care teams, which are located across the country, make great use of volunteers as they help walk through the hospice journey with our patients and their families.

SECOR Cares

8:30- 1:00 Monday and Tuesday (stocking the market area)
8:00-12:00 p.m. and 12:00-4:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday (packing and putting boxes in cars)
8:30-1:00 Friday and Saturday (packing and putting boxes in cars)

We also pack bags for the Food for Thought program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-2 in two-hour shifts.

Village Exchange Center

Packaging and sorting food - Tuesday & Wednesday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) • Curbside pickup coordination - Wednesday (Noon to 5 p.m.) • Food delivery - Wednesday & Thursday (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) • note: you are not required to volunteer for an entire shift – you can volunteer for 1, 2, or multiple hours.
