Neighborhood Watch Program

The Aurora Police Department strongly encourages citizen efforts to coordinate Neighborhood Watch Programs. Community volunteers, not police officers, run this program. The volunteers coordinate the activities in their areas, arrange meetings, picnics and other social gatherings, and schedule crime prevention and safety training for the residents in their neighborhood.

Neighborhood Watch is a group of citizens organized with the goal of taking an active role in making their community healthy and crime-free by working with law enforcement and other city resources. This is the basis of a strong community-policing program.

A Neighborhood Watch Program is built through neighbors who identify community concerns and criminal activity and who work toward improving the quality of life in the community.

Police Area Representatives (PAR)

PAR officers are dedicated to an area of the city. The officer dedicated to your area is responsible for educating the residents and stakeholders in that area about crime prevention, directing crime prevention initiatives, and performing problem-solving techniques to address quality of life issues.

The primary activities of the PAR officer are problem solving, education and prevention. Each officer works closely with residents and businesses in their area. Officers attend Neighborhood Watch meetings, presenting information regarding crime prevention and personal safety for home and work. PAR officers are also available to offer assistance with problems that may have a detrimental impact on the quality of life in neighborhoods.
