Fishing at Aurora Reservoir

The best water grows the best fish! Aurora's reservoirs have some of the best water around and have grown four state record fish: tiger muskie, catfish, smallmouth bass and white sucker. Both Aurora and Quincy Reservoirs are stocked by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Fishing Licenses:
A Colorado Fishing license is required for everyone 16 and older. The reservoirs do not sell fishing licenses; please plan ahead and purchase a license in advance at a local sporting goods store. In Aurora, fishing licenses can be purchased at Big Five, Wal-Mart or Valley Country Bait & Tackle. Annual fishing licenses go on sale in mid-March. For more info, or to purchase a fishing license online, visit Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Bait: All types of bait can be used at Aurora Reservoir. For live aquatic bait you must have a receipt no more than 7 days old.

Handicapped Accessible Fishing Pier: Available at Aurora Reservoir, south side of the upper parking lot.

Bag and Possession Limits:
2 - Trout any size
5 - Walleye 18 inches or longer (only one (1) Walleye longer than 21" can be taken per day)

10 - Wiper
20 - Crappie

What is a "bag" limit? How is it different from "possession" limit? Colorado Division of Parks & Wildlife defines bag limit as the maximum number of fish you can take in a day, regardless of what you do with them that day. Possession limit is defined as the maximum number of fish allowed at any time including in the field, while transporting, at home or other places of storage.

You can share or give away what you catch, but it must be to a person with a fishing license who has not caught and kept their limit. The fish counts towards the bag and possession limit of the person who caught the fish AND to the person it is shared with. Keep your fishery healthy by obeying bag and possession limits.
