UPDATE: Aurora Fugitives from Aug. 18 Burglary, Menacing Arrested Out of State
(Dec. 4, 2024) – Two Aurora fugitives wanted for burglary and felony menacing in August were arrested last week in New York City based on an extensive investigation by Aurora Police Department detectives assigned to a special task force known as Operation Safe Haven.
Edilson Pena-Angulo, 25, and Danyeer Aramillo-Meneses, 23, were arrested last Wednesday, Nov. 27, in the Bronx borough of New York City during a gang task force operation involving local law enforcement agencies and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations. Pena-Angulo and Aramillo-Meneses are in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody in New York.
Pena-Angulo and Aramillo-Meneses were wanted on Aurora Police Department warrants for first-degree burglary and menacing with a firearm, both felonies. The warrants were authored by investigators assigned to Operation Safe Haven, which is a special Aurora Police Department task force activated in August to investigate crimes involving the city’s migrant community.
The warrants stemmed from Aug. 18, when a security camera captured Pena-Angulo, Aramillo-Meneses and four other armed men knocking on doors at an apartment complex about 10 minutes before a fatal shooting in the 1200 block of Dallas Street. By Oct. 2, Operation Safe Haven investigators positively identified and obtained arrest warrants for all six suspects. Three are now in custody.
The suspects include:
• Naudi Lopez-Fernandez – In custody
• Edilson Yoel Pena-Angulo – In custody
• Danyeer Aramillo-Meneses – In custody
• Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco – Wanted
• Niefred Jose Serpa-Acosta – Wanted
• Adan Jose Ramirez-Sanchez – Wanted
Operation Safe Haven detectives continue to actively investigate the agency’s open cases related to criminal activity involving members of Aurora’s migrant community. As a result of those exhaustive and ongoing investigations, detectives have developed information that the three remaining suspects from the Aug. 18 security video have fled, as evidenced by the recent capture of two wanted fugitives in New York City.
“The arrests last week were the product of nothing other than the dedication of the city of Aurora’s officers and detectives, and our positive working relationships with local, state and federal partners throughout the country,” said Aurora police Chief Todd Chamberlain. “We will continue our unwavering pursuit of all the remaining suspects in this case, and anyone else who victimizes members of our community, until they are brought to justice.”
In addition to the two arrests, the New York City operation also netted the seizure of five firearms. The firearms are being transferred to Colorado to allow Operation Safe Haven investigators to determine if they are connected to any additional crimes in Aurora and the Denver metro area.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

District Judge Signs Warrants for 2 More 12th and Dallas Suspects
(Oct. 1, 2024) – An Arapahoe District Court judge signed late Monday afternoon arrest warrants for two more suspects involved in the Aug. 18 shooting near 12th Avenue and Dallas Street, and who appeared in a viral security camera video that garnered international media attention.
The warrants were written and submitted to the courts by Aurora Police Department investigators assigned to Operation Safe Haven, which is tasked with investigating crimes against Aurora’s migrant community. The warrants are now active for Edilson Yoel Pena-Angulo, 25, and Danyeer Aramillo-Meneses, 23, on charges of first-degree burglary and menacing with a firearm, both felonies.
A total of six armed men were featured in the Aug. 18 security camera video knocking on apartment doors about 10 minutes before a fatal shooting in the 1200 block of Dallas Street. All six suspects have been positively identified.
One of those suspects, Naudi Lopez-Fernandez, 21, is in custody. Operation Safe Haven investigators are actively searching for the outstanding suspects with the assistance of local, state and federal law enforcement partners.
Investigators continue to build additional facts about the sixth remaining suspect in anticipation that a warrant for his arrest will be filed in the future. The sixth remaining suspect will be identified once a warrant for his arrest has been signed by a judge and activated in the Colorado State Courts records management system.
At this time, none of the six suspects have been connected to any criminal organization. The information contained in this release will continue to be updated as additional progress is made in the investigation.
