(Aug. 23, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting stemming from a motor vehicle theft early Wednesday morning in the Del Mar Park neighborhood.
Officers responded at 4:39 a.m. Wednesday, to a report of a shooting in the 900 block of Paris Street. Once on scene, officers located a 49-year-old Aurora man inside of a home with an obvious gunshot wound.
Officers performed life-saving actions until Aurora Fire Rescue arrived and took over emergency medical treatment. Those life-saving actions were unsuccessful, and the man died at the scene.
The early stage of the investigation has revealed the man and his son were woken to the sound of two suspects stealing scooters parked in the backyard of their house. The man and his son confronted the suspects, who drove away on the stolen scooters.
The man and his son chased the suspects in their pickup. During the chase, shots were fired at the pickup.
The man and son returned home, at which point they noticed a vehicle drive by the front of the house and fire several rounds into the home. One bullet struck the man, fatally wounding him.
Investigators identified multiple scenes connected to the incident, including yards in the neighborhood where the scooters were recovered.
The suspects have not yet been identified. However, investigators don’t think there is a threat to the public. The victim will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
