Aurora Police Arrest Lyft Driver

Aurora Police Make Arrest in Sex Assault Case Involving Lyft Driver, Minor
Posted on 06/02/2023

(June 2, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department has made an arrest following a sexual assault investigation involving a young teenage passenger and a Lyft driver.

Shengfu Wu, 38, was arrested Saturday, May 14, and booked into the Aurora Jail on one charge of sexual assault on a child. The charge stems from about 3:20 a.m. Friday, May 13, when officers responded to a report of a sexual assault in the 6800 block of South Langdale Street.

The victim, a 13-year-old girl, told police she had been sexually assaulted by her Lyft driver while receiving a ride home. The girl said the incident occurred about two hours before reporting it to police.

Detectives from the Crimes Against Children Unit immediately began investigating and, within a few hours of the incident, were able to identify Wu as the suspect. Officers from District 3 located Wu the following day and took him into custody.

Wu’s vehicle also was located and impounded as evidence in the case. He has since been released from jail on $50,000 bond.

Detectives think there could be other victims who might not have reported unwanted sexual contact by Wu. We are asking anyone who believes they were a victim, and have not reported an incident to law enforcement, to please contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
