(May 13, 2023) — The Aurora Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit is investigating a fatal crash that happened early Saturday morning near the Laredo Highline neighborhood.
Officers responded to calls of a head-on crash at 4:29 a.m. on North Airport Boulevard just south of East Colfax Avenue. The initial investigation determines a black 2011 Smart Car was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Airport Boulevard. The Smart Car collided with a grey 2014 Subaru Outback that was traveling southbound in the southbound lanes of Airport Boulevard.
Each car was occupied by one adult male driver who were both transported to the hospital for their injuries. Sadly, the driver of the Smart Car did not survive his injuries. The driver of the Subaru suffered minor injuries.
This investigation is ongoing, but intoxication is possibly a contributing factor to the crash.
The driver's name, as well as the official cause and manner of death, will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's office.

This marks the 20th traffic-related fatality this year.
