“You are not lucky to be here. The world needs your perspective. They are lucky to have you.” – Antonio Tijerino, president and CEO of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation

Every fall the United States celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans with whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America through Hispanic Heritage Month. First recognized in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week, the celebration was expanded to a full month in 1988 and is now recognized Sept. 15 – Oct. 15. Find out more about the history of Hispanic Heritage Month here.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’ve compiled booklists for adults, teens and kids celebrating the stories and voices of Latino Americans. Check them out below and visit your local Aurora Public Library for more stories celebrating the month!

“We must use our lives to make the world a better place to live, not just to acquire things. That is what we are put on the earth for.” – Dolores Huerta, activist
