School Resource Officers

The objective for the School Resource Officer Program (SRO) is to provide a safe, healthy learning environment for our children. It is designed to create the opportunity to positively impact youth, build community interaction, and reduce crime and its effects. The primary focus of the SRO Program is reduce juvenile crime by helping students formulate an awareness of roles, authority and justice. SROs represent a proactive strategy designed to bring prevention and intervention into the schools.
SROs are assigned to work in high schools in the school districts in Aurora. They perform normal law enforcement functions in and around the school, along with providing education and counseling to the students in their school.
It's important for students and the public to remember that the presence of SROs at the high schools is not because the schools are unsafe, but instead an indicator that we are taking positive, proactive steps to ensure that the schools remain safe, conducive places for learning.
The Aurora Police Department has a mission "to make Aurora safer every day." Achieving this mission is simply not possible without the support, trust and cooperation of the community. This includes the young people of our city. The men and women in our department are here to protect and serve you, your family and your friends. The topics in this guide were selected and written by and with the assistance of a group of students. This guide is to provide you with knowledge on how police officers work and what to expect when you come into contact with one. We hope that by having this information you will make smart decisions when you come in contact with a police officer for any reason. Take the time to read this guide and share it with your family and friends. Working together we can strengthen our relationship and break down barriers that may exist between police, youth and others. We can achieve our mission by working together. Our SRO's play an active part in both the Aurora and Cherry Creek School Districts as it relates to teaching law related education in the classrooms.

The topics in the following guide are for the youth, by the youth. Some things discussed are the Aurora Police Department Resources, Procedures & Laws. What to know more?? Click here: EMPOWERING - Understanding through Knowledge
