Group picture of the Aurora Police Department School Resource OfficersThe objective for the School Resource Officer Program (SRO) is to provide a safe, healthy learning environment for our children. It is designed to create the opportunity to positively impact youth, build community interaction, and reduce crime and its effects. The primary focus of the SRO Program is reduce juvenile crime by helping students formulate an awareness of roles, authority and justice. SROs represent a proactive strategy designed to bring prevention and intervention into the schools.
SROs are assigned to work in high schools in the school districts in Aurora. They perform normal law enforcement functions in and around the school, along with providing education and counseling to the students in their school.
It's important for students and the public to remember that the presence of SROs at the high schools is not because the schools are unsafe, but instead an indicator that we are taking positive, proactive steps to ensure that the schools remain safe, conducive places for learning.

SROs teach Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) classes, safety classes, and other school programs as requested.
Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) is an evidence-based and GREAT logoeffective gang and violence prevention program built around school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curricula. The Program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership for children in the years immediately before the prime ages for introduction into gangs and delinquent behavior.

Safe2Tell Colorado gives students, parents, and community members a safe, anonymous way to report any threats to their safety or the safety of someone else ... in a way that keeps them SAFE.
