Four-year-old students who have qualifying factors may also qualify for an additional 15 hours of preschool, where available. Full day slots will be limited. The state of Colorado will allocate those slots sometime this summer.
*Three-year-old children with at least one of the qualifying factors are eligible for 10 hours of free preschool. When applying for UPK for a three-year-old, families must select the school district (Aurora Public Schools) as your first choice provider. Once accepted by APS, families can indicate which city of Aurora location you would like to have your child attend in a separate process.
Qualifying factors for extended UPK or UPK for three-year-old students include:
- A child who lives in a low-income household (270% of the 2023 Federal Poverty Guidelines)
- A child who has limited English proficiency (a dual-language learner and the native language spoken in the child’s home is a language other than English, or the native language is not English)
- A child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
- A child who is currently in a foster care home or in non-certified kinship care
- A child who is identified as homeless
Participation in a pre-k environment that is rich in play, activities, learning and positive social interactions help students transition to elementary school with a solid foundation. City of Aurora Preschools is excited to be able to provide UPK for 4-year-old students at all 5 of our Colorado Shines rated schools. Classes will begin Monday, Aug. 14, 2023 and run through May 2024.
Class schedules will vary at each location, so parents are encouraged to contact us at 303.739.6878 for more information.
