The Office of International and Immigrant Affairs was created to facilitate the successful integration of immigrants and refugees into Aurora's civic, economic and cultural life.

The office oversees the development and implementation of a strategic citywide plan regarding policy, programs and initiatives toward the local immigrant and refugee populations.

This office oversees the coordination of the Aurora Immigrant and Refugee Commission, Aurora International Roundtable, Aurora Fest and the Aurora International Cabinet.

In addition, the Office of International and Immigrant Affairs leads international efforts focused in the establishment of strategic global partnerships, manage official protocol activities and events, and serve as a liaison to the international community.

Aurora International Roundtable

The Aurora International Roundtable was created to assist and collaborate with the city of Aurora in the creation of international business opportunities, to celebrate the economic, cultural and civic contributions of the international community, and to serve as a key partner in the organization of the annual Global Fest event.

Reinvesting in Aurora’s Urban Canopy for Social Equity and Climate Resilience

Reinvesting in Aurora’s Urban Canopy for Social Equity and Climate Resilience” is a joint initiative between the city of Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department and the Office of International and Immigrant Affairs.

The initiative focuses on extending the lifespan of mature trees through tree planting, maintenance and pruning while also introducing a variety of new tree species in local neighborhoods. Additionally, it engages local communities in tree planting, tree pruning and other educational activities where residents can also learn about the different programs and resources available through the city. These efforts enhance and expand key initiatives stated in the city’s Immigrant Integration Plan.

“Reinvesting in Aurora’s Urban Canopy for Social Equity and Climate Resilience” is funded by a $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service to support the city’s urban forest growth and maintenance. The grant is part of a $1.5 billion investment in the USDA Forest Service’s nationwide Urban and Community Forestry Program, made possible through the Inflation Reduction Act.
