Posted on 08/17/2026

(Aug. 17, 2026) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit announced Monday it has made an arrest in its investigation into a homicide that occurred early Sunday morning in southwest Aurora.

Armanni Baraka Woods, 31, of Colorado Springs, was arrested Monday morning on charges of first-degree murder after deliberation. Woods was arrested without incident at a Colorado Springs motel by the Aurora Police Department fugitive unit, with assistance from the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Tactical Unit, K9 Unit and Real Time Crime Center.

“This is a great example of how quickly our Major Crime investigators mobilize when violence occurs in our community,” said Investigations Bureau Cmdr. Marc Paolino. “They worked tirelessly to identify and locate the suspect, coordinating closely with our fugitive unit and law enforcement partners in Colorado Springs. That teamwork resulted in the rapid arrest of a dangerous violent offender and demonstrates our commitment to pursuing those responsible for serious violence and holding them accountable.”

The charges stem from just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday, when Aurora patrol officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man lying on the sidewalk near the intersection of East Warren Avenue and South Galena Street. Officers quickly determined the 49-year-old Aurora man sustained a gunshot wound and died before first responders arrived at the scene. He will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

The Major Crime Homicide Unit responded and developed information the shooting occurred several hours earlier about one block away in the 2200 block of South Havana Street.

Woods was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center due to active local warrants. Formal charges in this case will be filed by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
