Sagebrush Park Playground Renovation

Join city of Aurora staff for a PROS Pop-Up Meeting at the Sagebrush Park shelter starting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3 to ask questions and share your ideas for the future playground at Sagebrush Park.

The City of Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department (PROS) understands how important the Sagebrush Park playground is to the community, and we know its closure is disappointing. Please trust that the decision to close any public space in our system is one that is made with the utmost care.

The safety of Aurora's children and families is our highest priority, and it’s our job to ensure that public playgrounds remain reliable for everyday use.

The playground was closed after safety inspectors determined the equipment has exceeded its lifespan and was no longer safe. Because the system is more than 30 years old and replacement parts are no longer available, repairs aren’t possible. A full renovation is needed.

The good news: this is not the end of the playground at Sagebrush Park. Our goal is to bring back a safer, updated play space.

Like all park improvement projects, this will take time. The process includes community input, design, permitting, procurement and construction to ensure we deliver a safe, high-quality result that reflects neighborhood needs. We anticipate this process to take about two years.

We invite you to be part of that process. Join us for a PROS Pop-Up Meeting at the Sagebrush Park pavilion on Wednesday, June 3 at 3 p.m. to ask questions and share your ideas.

In the meantime, nearby playgrounds are available at Pheasant Run Park, Carson Park, Wagon Trail Park and Sunburst Park.

Aging infrastructure is a challenge citywide. For more information on the city’s efforts to address this, please visit EngageAurora.org/BuildUpAurora.
