2026 City Furloughs
The city of Aurora’s 2026 budget, approved by City Council in November 2025, addresses a projected General Fund shortfall of more than $21 million through targeted spending reductions and the use of one-time reserves, resulting in a balanced budget. The $550 million General Fund supports most city services and daily operations.
As part of these cost-saving measures, the budget includes four employee furlough days. On these days, most city facilities and operations will be closed, except for essential services and emergency operations.
Furlough days help the city responsibly manage its budget while continuing to provide high-quality service to the community, supporting the city’s Well Managed strategic outcome.
The city has scheduled four furlough closure days in 2026:
- Friday, Jan. 16, 2026 (prior to Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 19)
- Friday, April 10, 2026
- Thursday, July 2, 2026 (prior to the Independence Day holiday on July 3)
- Thursday, Dec. 24, 2026 (prior to Christmas Day on Dec. 25)
A list of closures will be listed in the news section at AuroraGov.org a few days before each furlough day.
