(June 14, 2025) – An Aurora Police Department patrol officer was involved in a shooting Saturday while responding to a family dispute at a central Aurora residence.
Aurora patrol officers responded to the call about 5:45 p.m. Saturday in the 15800 block of East Arkansas Drive. The shooting occurred about 6 p.m.
A 58-year-old Aurora man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured during the incident.
The preliminary investigation has determined the incident stemmed from a domestic disturbance between a husband and wife. When officers arrived at the scene the couple separated, and the husband went to the garage.
Officers were speaking with the husband about the disturbance when he produced a handgun from a toolbox. Officers gave the husband multiple directions to drop the weapon. The husband pointed the firearm at the officers and an officer-involved shooting occurred.
One officer fired during the incident. The involved officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, in accordance with agency policy.
The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is leading an independent investigation of the officer-involved shooting to determine whether the officer’s actions complied with state law.
The Aurora Police Department’s Internal Investigations Bureau is conducting an administrative investigation to determine whether the officer’s actions complied with agency policies and training.
The investigations are active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
