Mission Viejo Library was dedicated Aug. 10, 1975 as South Branch Library and opened with a collection of 10,000 volumes. Engagement with the library quickly climbed, and in 1978, more than 216,000 items circulated yearly to 100,000 customers. South Branch Library was renamed to Mission Viejo Library on March 29, 2004 to better reflect the neighborhood in which it was located.
