City of Aurora Public Safety Training Center

The Aurora Police Department's Training Academy is at the city of Aurora's Public Safety Training Center, located at 25950 E Quincy Avenue Aurora, CO 80016Recruit Class

The state of Colorado's Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requires 558 hours of training to be certified as a police officer.

The Aurora Police Department almost doubles the amount of required training with 1,040 hours.

Classroom Training Includes:

  • Criminal and Judicial Process

  • Law Enforcement Ethics and Anti-Bias Policing

  • Colorado Criminal Code and Arrest/Search/Seizure

  • Community Policing

  • Report Writing and Preliminary Investigations

  • Crime Scene Searches and Documentation

  • Leadership and Verbal Communication Techniques


Hands-On Training Includes:

  • Vehicle Contacts, Stops, and Searches

  • Building Searches

  • Hostage and Barricaded Subject Incidents

  • Traffic Laws, Direction, and Crash Documentation

  • Standard Field Sobriety Testing and DUI Enforcement

  • Arrest Control, Driving, and Firearms

  • First Aid to include CPR, AED, tourniquet and wound care
