Our hearts are heavy today as we share the news of the death of Retired Aurora Fire Rescue Lieutenant Bud Hills.
Darold E. “Bud” Hills passed this weekend after battling cancer that was presumptively associated with his career as a firefighter. He retired in 2004 at the rank of Lieutenant after 31 years of service with Aurora Fire Rescue. Aurora Fire Rescue will honor his family and his memory as a line of duty death.
“We offer our collective condolences during this very difficult time,” said Fire Chief Fernando Gray, Sr. “His contributions were lasting, and his legacy continues on through many members including his son, AFR Deputy Chief Caine Hills.”
All members of Aurora Fire Rescue will shroud their badges until a service or memorial and interment is complete. American flags flying at Aurora Fire Rescue Fire Stations have been brought to half-staff.

Update: A funeral service was held in honor of Lt. Bud Hills on December 2 at Southeast Christian Church. The service was attended by many family members, friends and members of Aurora Fire Rescue (both active and retired).
