AURORA, Colo. – Survivors of cardiac arrest will join the emergency medical personnel who saved them at the Aurora Fire Rescue Annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 3 to celebrate life, family, friends and a job well done. These patients include a mother of seven children and a 14-year-old girl who suddenly went pulseless. In addition to these lifesaving awards, members of the department will be recognized with annual awards like Firefighter of the Year and Paramedic of the Year during the banquet.

Each year, Aurora Fire Rescue honors the crews who bring patients back after cardiac arrest. At the 2019 ceremony, more than 20 crews will be recognized for this achievement. The department Phoenix Awards are among the most treasured certificates bestowed on the agency’s EMTs and paramedics at this ceremony because of the high value placed on medical response by the department.

“The men and women of Aurora Fire Rescue are passionate about serving every patient with the utmost quality care,” said Fire Chief Fernando Gray. “Approximately 70 percent of our responses are related to emergency medicine, and it’s critical for our community that we train our members to the highest certification level to ensure that our community receives the best service possible. Lives are on the line when we respond; our firefighters and paramedics take that responsibility to heart each and every day.”

At least three survivors will attend the ceremony with their families to be reunited with the responders who saved them. The ceremony will be held at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center beginning at 6 p.m. The event is ticketed (by invitation only) and members of the media who would like to attend should contact AFR PIO, Lieutenant Laure Bridges at (720) 477-0315 or [email protected] to make arrangements for seating and interview opportunities with survivors and firefighters.
