AURORA ANIMAL SHELTER VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are critical to the work we do serving the thousands of animals that come to the Aurora Animal Shelter each year. Together, staff and volunteers ensure that animals in our care get exercise, mental stimulation, love and companionship.

We involve volunteers in a variety of ways, including but not limited to: socializing with dogs or cats, implementing brain games, assisting at adoption events and supporting staff through administrative tasks. We are currently seeking volunteers at both the Aurora Animal Shelter and at our PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center in Westminster. Check out all the volunteer opportunities here Aurora Volunteer Positions!

Think you may be interested in getting involved? Here are some thing you need to know!

Volunteer Guidelines

  • The minimum age for volunteering at the Aurora Animal Shelter is 18.
  • At the Everyday Adoption Center in Westminster, the minimum age for volunteering solo is 16. At this facility, individuals as young as 12 are permitted to volunteer, however, they must have a parent/guardian volunteering alongside them.
  • Volunteering at the shelter is a regular commitment. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity for individuals to be involved in a single day or short term volunteer stint.
  • We ask that you commit to either a weekly or biweekly shift.
  • To start volunteering, you must complete the onboarding process which includes attending an orientation, as well as additional training. There are no "walk in" volunteer opportunities.

If this sounds like an opportunity you are interested in, the first step to getting involved is to CREATE A VOLUNTEER PROFILE

When you create the profile, be sure to express interest in volunteering at the Aurora Animal Shelter! Once this is created, our Community Outreach Coordinator will reach out to you about signing up for the orientation and the next steps!

If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact our Community Outreach Coordinator at 303.326.8390 or at AnimalVolunteer@auroragov.org.

Current volunteers, please access your account here: Current Volunteer Log In.
