The Civil Service Commission, a panel of five appointed Aurora residents, ensures that Aurora firefighters and police officers in Civil Service ranks are hired and promoted in a fair and equitable manner.  

About Aurora Fire Rescue  

Aurora Fire Rescue (AFR) responds to thousands of emergencies each year, from injuries and illnesses to natural and man-made disasters. Nearly 500 firefighters, paramedics and personnel work around the clock to protect lives and property through emergency medical services, fire suppression and risk reduction. 

AFR operates 17 fire stations across the city and maintains a fleet of 17 fire engines, six ladder trucks, four medical service units and additional specialized resources. 

As an all-hazards department, AFR is equipped to respond to a wide range of emergencies, including hazardous materials incidents, building collapses, rope rescues, wildland fires, water rescues and vehicle extrications, among other emergencies.
