Child Exploitation Arrest

Former Aurora Resident Arrested on Child Sexual Exploitation Charges
Posted on 07/17/2026

(July 17, 2026) – A 2023 Aurora Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children investigation recently concluded with the arrest of a former Aurora resident on charges of purchasing child sexual abuse material.

David Lawrence Snyder, 40, of unincorporated Douglas County, turned himself in to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, July 9, on an active Aurora Police Department probable cause warrant on charges of sexual exploitation of a child.

The warrant stems from 2023, when detectives at the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina launched an investigation into a suspect who was selling child sexual abuse material to people throughout the country. Davidson County Sheriff’s Office investigators identified numerous purchasers and referred information to the appropriate local law enforcement agencies, including Aurora police.

Snyder, who was and remains a registered sex offender, was identified as one of the purchasers. Snyder was residing in Douglas County at the time of the referral, but Aurora Internet Crimes Against Children investigators determined the purchases of child sexual abuse material occurred while Snyder was an Aurora resident.

Aurora police served a search warrant at Snyder’s Douglas County residence. Several electronic devices were seized and forensically examined. Detectives found numerous child sexual abuse files on Snyder’s seized devices.

Snyder has a long history of sexual assaults, including three arrests between 2004 and 2016 involving minor-aged victims.

The Aurora Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Unit is partnered with Homeland Security Investigations, the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation as part of the Colorado Cyber Guardian Task Force, which is comprised of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in the Denver metro area. The task force focuses on child exploitation and child sex trafficking investigations.
