Sheilah Jane is a Filipina American author whose work explores resilience, identity and belonging. She will discuss her debut memoir, “Shadows and Sunrises,” which weaves her personal journey with reflections on cultural history. FACC Padayon will also perform.

Homeschool Day: The Move West, Gold Rush and Homesteading 
Friday, Sept. 11, 9:30 a.m.
In this activity-based homeschool day we explore the mineral that shaped Colorado: gold.  In 1859, thousands of people moved here in hopes of finding some. Try it for yourself by panning for gold on a historic homestead.

History Hike: DeLaney Farm
Sept. 19, 3:30 p.m.
Join us for a guided hike around a historic homestead as we step back into life in the late 1800s. Along the way, we’ll explore how westward expansion reshaped the area and what drew the Gullys, DeLaneys and other immigrant families to settle on the plains.

History Hike: Before Aurora

See firsthand how the Plains Native Americans and early settlers made a living in this rugged environment. The hike includes visits to different types of dwellings, from tipis to sod houses built from prairie soil, offering a vivid look at daily life on the plains.

Lyn Buti Lambago is a T’boli tradition-bearer from Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. She preserves and shares the dances, music, crafts and traditions of the Tboli people, one of the many Indigenous cultural communities that make up the Philippines.

Learn about the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2-Spirit people (MMIWG2S) with cultural anthropologist Daniel Oxendine of the Lumbee Tribe. Explore the history, ongoing impact and the work of Red Threads, a digital archive preserving these stories.
