Aurora Public Library welcomes Black History Live, a presentation highlighting York’s role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition

Black History Live is coming to Aurora Central Library, 14949 E. Alameda Parkway, Saturday, Feb. 21 for a presentation about the life of York, who was born into slavery and made important contributions to the Lewis and Clark Expedition, presented in partnership with Colorado Humanities.

This program will highlight African Americans in the west with professional actor, director and educator Marvin Jefferson portraying York, who was born into slavery in Virginia and owned by William Clark. The presentation at Aurora Central Library is free of charge and will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. York traveled thousands of miles across uncharted territory on the Lewis and Clark Expedition and contributed as a skilled hunter, caregiver and diplomat with Native American nations.

Black History Live provides dynamic education and cultural programs that honors the impactful contributions African Americans have made, and continue to make, in American history.
