Posted on 09/18/2025

(Sept. 18, 2025) – The Aurora Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting Thursday responding to a weapons call at a business in west Aurora.

About 7:30 p.m., officers responded to an Aurora911 call about a male armed with a firearm who threatened to open fire inside a business in the 200 block of South Havana Street. The 911 caller, who is also the suspect in the incident, also threatened to shoot at police officers.

Three officers arrived at the scene and located the suspect, who ignored instructions to show his hands. One of the officers used a 40mm less lethal launcher that fires foam projectiles, which had no effect on the suspect. The suspect ran toward police, at which point one officer discharged their firearm striking the suspect.

Officers performed lifesaving actions on the suspect until medical responders arrived at the scene and rushed him to the hospital. The suspect, believed to be 17, was later pronounced dead at the hospital. He will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

As of late Thursday night, the scene was still being processed and a firearm had not yet been located. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave, in accordance with agency policy.

The 18th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The Aurora Police Department is conducting a parallel administrative review of the incident.

The investigations are active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
