(April 29, 2025) – The Aurora Police Department announced Tuesday an arrest has been made in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in central Aurora.
Brandon Ellis Sutton, 32, of Aurora, was arrested Sunday afternoon by members of Aurora police’s fugitive unit and officers with the Denver Police Department Metro SWAT Team. He is charged in Arapahoe District Court with first-degree murder after deliberation.
The arrest stems from less than 12 hours earlier when about 2:15 a.m. Sunday, Aurora police patrol officers responded to a report of multiple shots fired in a parking lot in the 15000 block of East Mississippi Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they located two men with apparent gunshot wounds.
Officers performed lifesaving actions on the two men until medical responders arrived at the scene. One of the men sustained life-threatening injuries and later died at a local hospital. He will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
The second man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive.
The Aurora police Major Crime Homicide Unit responded to investigate the shooting and quickly identified Sutton as a possible suspect. Investigators believe Sutton and the two men are known to each other. There are no outstanding suspects.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
