Start Date: Late May 2018
Estimated End Date: Early 2019 (updated 11/8/18)
This project will widen East Quincy Avenue between South Reservoir Road and South Himalaya Street from the current two-lane configuration to six lanes for a consistent roadway through the corridor. Work will include installation of curb, gutter and asphalt, signal and striping modifications, and installation of sidewalk and street lights. The project is intended to reduce congestion, increase continuity and improve safety through the area for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The project will be led by the city of Aurora, with the involvement and support of the city of Centennial.
Traffic impact hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, but may be extended for special circumstances. While Quincy Avenue will remain open to traffic during construction, alternate routes are advised. The project will be phased and require closures of access to and from Quincy Avenue at adjacent roadways for periods as long as several months. Detours will be in place during these times and provided here and signed in the impacted area.
Update Nov. 8, 2018:
The project is being delayed to allow Xcel Energy to move an electrical line that is in conflict with the project. Xcel's construction work is expected to be complete by the end of the year, after which the city's road work will resume, weather permitting. The city's contractor will install temporary striping prior to Xcel's construction work to ensure appropriate flow of traffic until the city's work resumes.
