ADOPTIONS

We understand the fun, excitement and joy of adopting a new pet. The Aurora Animal Shelter is happy to be a part of that experience. If you are looking to adopt, please view our available animals online. If a particular animal catches your attention, please note the animal's location as we have two adoption facilities.

Aurora Animal Shelter: To meet with an animal at the Aurora Animal Shelter call 303.326.8280 for more information and to schedule an appointment to visit.

Everyday Adoption Center: To meet with an animal at the Everyday Adoption Center in Westminster, please call the Aurora Animal Shelter at 303.326.8280 to schedule an appointment to visit.

Attention Cat Lovers: We utilize several PetSmart and Petco stores in the metro area. If you see a cat on the website there is a chance it could be at one of these locations. Click on the desired cat's photo and the location will be noted in the cat's information IF the cat is at a PetSmart or Petco. If you need assistance in locating where an animal is being housed, please call us and we will be happy to assist you.

Since 2020 we have seen a huge increase in people wanting to adopt. Most of our animals are getting adopted within 24 hours after being made available on the website. This is great news for our animals, but we understand that this can be frustrating for people searching for a new pet. Currently the best days to check the website for available animals are Thursday and Saturday. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

Before you being the process of searching for a new pet. Here are a few useful tips to keep in mind when selecting the right pet for you and your family: A few things to consider when adopting a new dog.

FEATURED PETS

SammiSammi

12-year-old Sammi and 4 other kitties found themselves in an unfortunate situation when their owner lost his home. With nowhere else to go Sammi and his friends were brought to the shelter in February. Poor Sammi suffered from a polyp in his left ear that caused it to bleed and was extremely painful. Thankfully Sammi's ear has been treated and he feels so much better.

Since then all of Sammi's friends have been adopted and now Sammi is eager to find a loving home of his own. Sammi can be very shy around new people and would benefit being with a patient individual that is experienced with cats and has no young kids in the home. Once he warms up Sammi loves to be petted and has a loud purr to prove it. Sammi also loves to play with wand toys and enjoys treats. Another cat in the home may be hugely beneficial in helping him with his confidence.

Sammi's adoption fee has been reduced to $32.50. If you are interested in adopting Sammi, please contact the shelter at 303.326.8280 to schedule an appointment to visit.

FEATURED PETS

Toby

When Toby's owner sadly passed away, Toby had no one to care for him and found himself at the shelter. This adorable 3-year-old pup is seeking a new home that will appreciate his playful personality. Toby is truly man's best friend, adores people, is extremely affectionate and loves to play ball. Toby is a tad overweight, but luckily enjoys going on walks. In his previous home he lived with two other large dogs and did great with them. Unfortunately, Toby can be protective over his food, so he is not ideal for homes with young kids and should be separated from other dogs at feeding time. If you are interested in adopting Toby, please contact the shelter at 303.326.8280 to schedule an appointment to visit.
