Apply by Oct. 23 to volunteer for this critical advisory group

AURORA, Colo. — The application window is still open for a few more weeks for two vacancies on the city of Aurora’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
This critical volunteer group provides recommendations to the Aurora City Council on zoning and a wide range of planning- and development-related issues.
Members also review site plans and use approvals, unless appealed to the City Council. The city is looking to fill two spots on the seven-member commission. Each of those two new members would serve terms running from Jan. 1, 2027, through Dec. 31, 2029.
To become a member, applicants must be registered electors and residents of Aurora for at least one year immediately preceding the date of their appointment. No member shall hold any paid office or position in the city administration. If any member ceases to be an Aurora resident, membership will terminate immediately.
The City Council in September approved an application and interview schedule to fill these vacancies.
Interested residents now have until Oct. 23 to submit an application. The council will then rank applicants by preference before the city performs background checks and the council schedules interviews with applicants in November. The two applicants who pass through the interview process would be up for votes of final approval from the council in early December before taking their seats on the commission in 2027.
