The city of Aurora is excited to announce the grand reopening of Utah Pool, welcoming residents back just in time for the late spring 2026 season. A grand reopening celebration will be held Saturday, April 18.
Community members are invited to Utah Pool, 1800 S. Peoria St., that Saturday for a full day of aquatic festivities that will include guest appearances from city leadership (and Finn the Shark!), swim lessons, activities like paddleboard yoga and log rolling, and giveaways for free aquatics programming and merchandise. Grand reopening activities will take place between 11:45 a.m. and 4 p.m., but the pool will be open at 8 a.m. that morning for general use.
Prior to the grand reopening celebration, Utah Pool will open its doors to the public beginning Monday, April 6. The facility’s hours will be 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Originally constructed in 1974 as an outdoor pool, the facility has served generations of residents for more than 50 years. Many of the pool’s original systems dated back to its original construction, including cast iron pipes located beneath the pool. After decades of continuous operation, portions of the piping became brittle and corroded, leading to leaks and the need for significant repair.
To ensure the long-term safety, reliability and performance of the facility, the city of Aurora made the proactive decision to complete comprehensive repairs.
Enhancements and new construction items at Utah Pool include new chemical feeder systems for improved water quality, a fully repaired leak to ensure long-term reliability and a brand-new pool liner. Water conservation was at the forefront of the upgrade process, as the addition of an upgraded filtration system with glass media and an electric flocculation system will provide finer filtration, clearer water and improved water savings estimated around 200,000 gallons per year. Last – and certainly not least – alongside the reopening of the pool comes the long-awaited opening of the location’s new leisure pool water slide with an under-water soft landing pad.
These improvements enhance water quality, increase operational efficiency and provide a safer, more enjoyable experience for swimmers of all ages.
The city of Aurora appreciates the community’s patience during the closure and renovation process and looks forward to welcoming residents back to a refreshed and improved facility that is now ready to host lap swim, lessons, aquatic fitness classes and open swim opportunities. This investment reflects a continued commitment to maintaining safe, high-quality recreational spaces for residents.
