Background
The Highway 30 Landfill, located at 1351 S. Gun Club Road/State Highway 30, is a closed landfill formerly operated and currently owned by the city of Aurora. The site operated as a municipal solid waste landfill from 1969 until the landfill closed in 1975.
The city of Aurora has conducted post-closure monitoring of groundwater at the site since closure of the landfill in 1975. Environmental investigations from 2016 through 2024 detected contaminants in groundwater downgradient from the site at levels above state groundwater quality standards.
The Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment issued a Final Compliance Order on consent to the city of Aurora, effective on Oct. 1, 2019, to address the groundwater contamination.
