Aurora Metro Center

Urban Unexpected

Aurora Metro Center Station

Location: The R Line in the heart of Aurora's City Center district, on the east side of Sable Boulevard and directly north of Centrepoint Drive and adjacent to the existing RTD bus transfer facility, in the heart of Aurora's City Center district featuring existing retail, Aurora Municipal Campus (city hall, library, museum, police services, courthouse and detention center) and the Arapahoe County CentrePoint Plaza building.

Parking: 200 commuter spaces

Vision: Properties within this station area are located within the City Center II Urban Renewal Area, which was created to address redevelopment on the remaining vacant land (137 acres) and future redevelopment needs of three adjacent existing retail centers. A new 6.8-acre urban renewal area at the northeast corner of South Sable Street and East Alameda Avenue, along with the Alameda Center Urban Renewal Plan, was established in 2015 to facilitate the redevelopment of the existing bank and shopping center into a quality transit-oriented development.

The city is committed to creating an attractive urban center for Aurora, and public improvements to enhance connections to the station are in the planning stages. These are likely to include enhanced pedestrian lighting, and wider, attractive sidewalks on Sable Boulevard.

Other Land Details: More than 60 acres of undeveloped land are immediately adjacent to the station, as well as redevelopment opportunities in the area. The High Line Canal Trail is close to the station, as is a city park. Both of these recreational amenities will be valuable assets to new development.

Coming Soon: Metro Center Station Area Bike/Pedestrian Connector: $1,832,000 (federal funds) and $459,000 (city match)
Constructs a 10-foot-wide concrete trail connected to the High Line Canal Trail between the Aurora Municipal Center complex running from City Center Park via the newly constructed East Alameda Parkway underpass to the Metro Center Station at Sable Boulevard and CentrePoint Drive; creates a new pedestrian crossing off Campus Loop Road between City Center Park and the Aurora Municipal Justice Center, new wayfinding signs, and new lighting along the entire route (scheduled for completion in July 2017).
