Aurora Man Dies After Fatal Car Crash

(March 30th, 2023) - The Aurora Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit is investigating a fatal crash that happened Saturday night, March 18 in District 3.

Officers responded to a single-vehicle crash where the driver, 26, was speeding down E. Smoky Hill Parkway and S. Powhaton Road in a GMC Yukon at approximately 7:30 pm that evening. The driver drove off the road, colliding with several street lights, street signs, trees and came to rest against a signal light pole.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and the only person injured in the crash. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the incident and was taken to the hospital in poor condition.

The driver suffered significant injuries and passed away a few days after being admitted into the hospital. It was on March 29th that the Arapahoe County Coroner's office informed the Aurora Police Department that the driver succumbed to his injuries. It is unsure at this time what caused the driver to veer off the road. This investigation is ongoing and the individual's name, along with the official cause and manner of death will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's office.

This marks the 11th traffic related death of 2023.
