(May 25th, 2023) - The Aurora Police Department's Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal crash that happened Wednesday night on Interstate 70, west of Chambers Road.
Officers responded to an automobile versus pedestrian crash involving one female, 22, and at least one vehicle. The pedestrian had walked down the on-ramp of I-70 from Chambers Road. She was crossing I-70 when a 2023 BMW 330xi driving westbound struck her. The pedestrian was thrown from the roadway, landing in the next lane over. She was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Interstate 70 was closed down for several hours during the investigation and reopened approximately 1:30 a.m.
Investigators believe it is possible the pedestrian was hit by several vehicles that do not know they were involved. APD is asking anyone who might have been involved or witnessed the crash to contact the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
This is the 24th traffic-related fatality of 2023.
