News ReleaseA fire in an open space area near Chambers Rd. and Parker Rd. caused concern for nearby neighbors this afternoon. Firefighters from Aurora Fire Rescue were able to contain it, keeping it under three acres in size and prevented spread to nearby homes.

Around 3:15 p.m. 911 callers reported smoke and fire in the Pioneer Hills neighborhood in the 5400 block of S. Elkhart Ct. Resources from stations around Aurora responded in force which included eight engine companies, three brush trucks, two battalion chiefs, one ladder truck and one tender. This large response along with the quick work by firefighters were key elements in limiting the spread of fire.

Firefighters went door-to-door and evacuated some residents from their homes as a precautionary measure, those evacuations impacted fewer than a dozen condos. A crew was assigned specifically to structure protection, and other units were placed throughout the neighborhood to ensure a strategic and effective firefighting force.

Ultimately, the fire was contained less than an hour into the incident and no injuries or residential property damage occurred.  Crews continued their work to mop up hot spots, this means that firefighters worked for an extended period of time to extinguish any remaining hot spots. An Aurora Fire Rescue Brush Truck will remain on scene monitoring the area into the evening hours. There was no early indication of the cause, and a fire investigator was at the site conducting their work.
