Featured Adoptable Pet of the Week for November 17th

Snoopy (ID# A119437) is a neutered male Akita-Shepherd mix.  He is approximately 11 months old.  Snoopy was left outdoors most of his life and hasn’t received any obedience training. He was surrendered by his owner for “disobedience and chewing,” something many puppies Snoopy’s age are guilty of.  Snoopy is a submissive dog, intelligent and eager to please.  He’ll quickly learn proper canine etiquette from someone willing to spend a little time with him.  He’s good with children and other dogs; but is frightened by loud noises.  This great dog has been in kennel K15 for six weeks and is available for immediate adoption.

Shelter Tip of the Week
It is important to make proper chew toys available to older pups when puppy teeth fall out and adult teeth start coming in. The Animal Care Division recommends that owners begin basic obedience training as early as possible to prevent problem behaviors before they occur.  The City’s Recreation Department has great dog obedience classes taught by qualified instructors; beginning with Puppy Kindergarten - extending to Advanced Training for show dogs.  Owners go thru the classes with their pets and learn as much as the dogs (if not more)!  Proper obedience training can change the dog’s status from being a pet, to becoming a true member of the family.  Call 303-326-8630 for class registration information.

Animals for Adoption
The Aurora Animal Shelter has many wonderful animals available for adoption. You can visit them during the shelter’s normal hours of operation.

Lost Pets
Call the shelter to register a “lost report” with information on your pet and phone numbers where you can be reached if your animal is found. Frequently visit the Aurora Animal Shelter in person. Post well-placed “Missing” posters at main entry ways to your neighborhood. Placing an unlaundered piece of clothing outside may help your animal detect your scent and find its way home.

Found Pets
If you find a stray animal, local newspapers run a free "found" advertisement in the classified section for three days, but it's best to bring the animal to the Aurora Animal Shelter. Owners routinely search animal shelters for their missing pets.

After-hours kennels are located on the west side of the shelter next to the garage and kennel doors are propped open at closing time. The doors lock automatically upon closing to prevent animals from inadvertently being placed together. Please provide us with information on when and where the animal was found by completing one of the forms from boxes hanging on the wall next to the kennels.

If you prefer to keep the animal at your personal residence, call the shelter to register a “found report.” The Animal Care Division’s computerized database will indicate if someone has placed a corresponding “lost report” so the animal can be reunited with its owners.

Pet Licenses Online
You can quickly and easily purchase a license for your pet and renew it online each year. Intact Permits may also be purchased and renewed online.

Before you begin the process, you should have at-hand the copy of the rabies certificate from your veterinarian for rabies tag information, vaccine expiration date, and information regarding your pet’s doctor.
