(October 5) On Monday, October 5, 2020, at about 6:15 A.M., Aurora Police responded to a vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 225 near South Parker Road.

Initial investigation reveals that a Dodge Charger entered Interstate 225 from East Iliff Avenue and was going southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck the passenger side of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. After striking the pickup truck, the Dodge continued southbound where it eventually struck, head-on, with a Mazda SUV. The driver of the Dodge was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was transported to a nearby hospital where they remain in serious condition with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Silverado was thankfully uninjured.

Traffic Unit Investigators will continue to investigate and attempt to reconstruct the scene to determine speeds and other contributing factors. At this time, we do believe that alcohol was a factor in this crash.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office after positive identification and next-of-kin notifications.

We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash, has dash cam footage, or if you have any information about this incident, please contact the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).

The Aurora Police Department Traffic Section is investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian traffic crash that occurred in the crosswalk on East Yale Avenue at South Abilene Street.

At 9:04 a.m. a vehicle traveling northbound on East Abilene Street, just South of East Yale Avenue, made a left turn onto westbound East Yale Avenue. At the same time, a 71-year-old female was jogging, with the right-of-way, in the crosswalk on East Yale Avenue.

The driver struck the jogger, who was in the crosswalk, fatally injuring her.  The driver did not flee the scene, and drugs or alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.

This fatality marks the 21st life claimed in traffic related crashes this year in Aurora.  Among those 21 lives lost, eight were auto-pedestrian fatalities.  In seven of the eight auto-pedestrian fatalities, the pedestrian was not lawfully crossing the road.

Drivers and pedestrians can help us prevent such tragedies by being extra vigilant when in the roadways we share.  Drivers should stop, check and proceed slowly into crosswalks, and yield to pedestrians in the roadway.  Pedestrians should use crosswalks and crosswalk buttons, obey pedestrian signals, and dress in a manner that illuminates you at night.

This investigation is in the early stages and is ongoing. We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash, has dash camera footage, or has any information about this incident, to please contact the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867) or reach out to the Aurora Police Department Traffic Unit.

The Aurora Police Department Traffic Section is investigating an Auto Vs. Pedestrian Crash that occurred on East Arapahoe Road Saturday night.

At around 10:00p.m. a Chevy sedan was traveling Eastbound in the far right lane of the 14700 block of East Arapahoe Road. The vehicle struck an adult male who was walking in the lanes of traffic.  That section of roadway was not illuminated by street lights at the time of the accident.  The male pedestrian was pronounced at the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The name of the pedestrian is not being released at this time and will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Officer once he has been positively identified and his next of kin have been notified of his death.

The investigation into the cause of this crash is in it's early stages and is on-going. Any witnesses who did not stop and remain at the scene are asked to contact the Aurora Police Traffic Investigations Unit.
