For a minimum $20 donation, the Library Adopt-A-Book program will place a bookplate in a newly purchased book with your name, your organization’s name and a short message such as “in memory of…” or “in honor of…”. Complete, print and mail us the Adopt-A-Book form with your donation to:

The Friends of the Aurora Public Library is a non-profit organization committed to supporting services and programs of the Aurora Public Library. The Friends raise funds by staffing and operating the Book Outlet, which sells used books with proceeds directly benefiting the Library.

The Book Outlet is located at 2243 S. Peoria St. Their sole mission for the last 25 years has been to provide financial support to the Aurora Public Library. The FAPL also sells outdated and worn library books. The library uses the money from the FAPL to buy new library books and provide programs, such as the annual youth and teen Summer Reading Program. The FAPL is a 100-percent volunteer organization, and historically, donate around $50,000 a year to the library. You can also donate books directly to the FAPL at their bookstore. Thanks to the wonderful volunteers at FAPL, a win-win situation exists in that the community can purchase books at very low prices, unneeded books are reused, and needed funding is provided to the library. In fact, sometimes books are purchased at the FAPL, and donated repeatedly.

Friends of the Aurora Public Library donates $10,000 to the Library
The Friends of the Aurora Public Library (FAPL) recently presented a check for $10,000 to the library. FAPL President of Kathy Turner presented the check to Library & Cultural Services Director Patti Bateman. The funds will go to support the programs and services of the Aurora Public Library. Thanks to all the hardworking volunteers, loyal members of FAPL, customers, donors and Facebook fans of FAPL for making this possible.

Volunteering at the Library
The Aurora Public Library has many volunteer opportunities that provide a chance to help the community and get involved. Volunteers are paired with jobs depending on interest, skills and personal schedule. Certain skills, physical capabilities, customer service experience or technical knowledge may be required depending on the job so the best quality service is provided to library patrons. Some positions may require a skills assessment before acceptance.
Bilingual abilities are always needed and in demand. Some positions allow for considerable flexibility while other positions, because they support critical daily work flow, require a higher level of dedication and dependability. Other positions, where training time is minimal, work well for short-term volunteering like church or school community services projects. Additionally, duties involving cash handling or access to customer library account records are not performed by volunteers due to city policies and state library privacy laws in order to limit liability to the city and its volunteers.
To further protect customer privacy and the confidentiality of city proprietary information, volunteers are asked to sign confidentiality agreements and maintain the highest of professional standards. Volunteers are also subject to a standard background check as many positions involve working with or around children. Volunteers must be ages 14 or older. Volunteers under the age of 18 require parental/guardian consent.

The Aurora Public Library is always in need of your generous donations. You can donate online, in person at the circulation desk, or by mail. Your generous donation will be used to purchase books and materials. Checks can be made out to Aurora Public Library and sent to Aurora Public Library/Administration, 14949 E. Alameda Parkway, Aurora, CO 80012.
Books, CDs and DVDs
The Aurora Public Library encourages, and is happy to accept, donated items that are in good condition at any of the Library’s locations. We do our best to add donated items to the library collection. Occasionally, however, donated materials are replicas of items already in the collection, or shelving space is full, or for other reasons are not appropriate for the Library’s collection and we are unable to place specific donated items into the collection.
Magazines, newspapers, textbooks, maps, and encyclopedias are not accepted. Exceptions are encyclopedias that are less than three years old. The Library does not archive news and magazine hard copy print and there is little resale value for these items.
Computers, furniture and other items are not accepted. Most technology items because of specific operating standards, compatibility, maintenance, technical support and networking issues that make the use of such items cost ineffective. Furniture and other Items may be accepted on a case by case basis if the specific item is needed in a library.
