The city of Aurora’s Community Development Division and Home Ownership Assistance Program offer free monthly Financial Fitness Classes throughout the year. These classes are recommended for enhancing your overall quality of life in addition to providing good preparation for homeownership.
All financial classes will be held in the Akron/Clinton Room at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library, 9898 E. Colfax Ave. Refreshments will be served, and attendees will be entered into a drawing for two gift cards at each class. Because these classes are for educational purposes, we ask that you not bring children.
Topics to be covered include:
- Banking & Investments – This class covers everything from banking basics to individual investing, with links to tutorials and other ways to learn about investing with the help of professionals or on your own.
- Financial Goal Setting – This class explores short-term, medium-term and long-term goals to improve your financial future. Financial vehicles for each type of goal are discussed, and worksheets are provided.
- Credit & Debt – This class explains debt along with a process for paying off debt more quickly; credit scoring and the process of improving your credit score; and how to monitor and protect your credit.
- Budgeting – This class covers creating spending and savings plans, by recognizing “needs” vs. “wants” and “fixed” vs. “variable” expenses. Also, learn how to plan for major purchases and create an emergency fund.
