Because of the COVID-19 crisis, appropriate staff may not be ​readily available and able to accept service of process of legal documents.  If you need to serve legal documents on the City, its departments, or City employees in their official capacity, you may send a waiver of personal service to Cindy Selden, CSelde​n​@auroragov.org, and Joanne Flaherty, JFlahert@auroragov.org. Your email should include all of the documents you need to serve as well as a waiver form for acceptance of the service. Our email account is regularly monitored, and we will respond to your request in due course. If you have received a summons (ticket) and are scheduled to appear in Aurora Municipal Court and you wish to speak with the City Attorney handling this matter, please call 303.739.7810.

The Criminal Justice Division of the City Attorney's Office is located on the second floor of the Aurora Municipal Court Building. This division is responsible for the prosecution of Municipal Ordinance and Regulation violations and handles all appellate work stemming from such prosecutions.

The Aurora City’s Attorney’s Office is legal counsel for the Mayor, City Council and all city agencies, departments and boards and commissions. Our office participates in:

  • Financing public improvement projects
  • Drafting and reviewing city ordinances
  • Drafting and negotiating contracts
  • Litigating civil matters in state and federal court
  • Advising City Council on state legislation
  • Providing general counsel and advice to City Council and city staff

Whom do I contact concerning a Municipal Court matter?

The first step would be to contact Municipal Court, who can then, if necessary, direct you to a Municipal Court prosecutor. They can be reached Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed from noon to 1:30 p.m.), at 303.739.7810.

Whom do I contact when I have questions about the status of a police matter that has already been reported, or a charge against me?

Contact the Aurora Police Department directly.

Whom do I contact if I have a complaint related to the city?

Citizens should contact the appropriate city department to make their complaints.
