Stephen D. Hogan Parkway

Hogan Parkway Aerial Map

Now Open!
The Stephen D. Hogan Parkway is now officially open and accessible. This two-mile extension provides access to residential communities and access to Buckley Air Force Base by connecting Sixth Avenue to the E-470 Tollway. Over 40,500 tons of asphalt were used during the construction of this roadway and the new bridge over Sand Creek. Also, now open is the redesigned Triple Creek Trail, which has been extended by 7,000 feet.

Upcoming Work
Crews will continue to wrap up the medians and intersections through the end of the year. Traffic impacts are expected to be minimal. The city of Aurora and the project team appreciate your patience during the completion of this project.

New Intersection Overview
The new Green T Intersection is located at the western limits of the project where the new Stephen D. Hogan Parkway project intersects with the SH-30. The new intersection is designed to allow westbound traffic on Hogan Parkway to proceed through the intersection without being stopped by the traffic signal.

Take a look at this link from another jurisdiction to see a visual demonstration of this type of intersection.

Project Overview

In August 2018, the city of Aurora and its contractor SEMA Construction, Inc., began construction on the Stephen D. Hogan Parkway project. To honor the city of Aurora’s late mayor, the parkway name was changed from Sixth Avenue Parkway to Stephen D. Hogan Parkway.

The project includes a new extension parkway that closes a two-mile gap in the current system and connects East Sixth Avenue to the E-470 Tollway. This provides a continuous east-west connection between the two roads. The project is designed to improve access to residential communities east of E-470 and to simplify access to Buckley Air Force Base from the E-470 Tollway.

In addition to the construction of a new two-lane roadway, the project includes:

- A new roadway bridge over Sand Creek
- Modifying a section of the Triple Creek Trail
- Constructing two new intersections; one at Picadilly Road and the other at State Highway 30

Background

This project builds on previous transportation efforts dating back to 1996. The project will enhance east-west mobility between 6th Avenue/State Highway 30 and E-470, and address increased travel demand from new residential and business growth in the area.
