Aurora, CO.- July 22, 2016, 6:45 p.m.-  Aurora PD patrol and Traffic officers responded to the intersection of E. Colfax Ave. and Jasper Street on a report of a motorcycle crash.  Upon arrival investigation revealed a motorcycle, driven by, Joseph Alfredo Chavez, 44yo, of Denver, was eastbound on E. Colfax Ave. when according to witnesses a forest green in color late model Ford Ranger with a matching bed topper made a left turn from southbound Jasper Street in front of the motorcycle.  Chavez attempted to brake but lost control and went down onto the pavement, flipping over.  The Ford Ranger did not stop and continued eastbound on E. Colfax Ave.  Chavez was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe life threatening injuries to his head.  He was transported to University of Colorado Hospital for emergency medical treatment, however Chavez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced on July 25th, 2016 at 9:19 p.m.

The Aurora Police Traffic Section is investigating this crash under report# 2016-29148.  We are asking for anyone that may have witnessed the crash, or knowledge of the green in color Ford Ranger, to contact the Aurora Police Traffic Investigations Unit at 303-739-6202.  Again we are looking for a late model Ford Ranger, forest green in color with a matching bed topper. 

This is the 12th traffic related fatality for the City of Aurora this year.
