On January 29th, 2022 at approximately 6:45p.m. Aurora Police responded to a report of an injury crash in the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and South Tower Road.
Upon arrival they found a heavily damaged Chevy Equinox and Chrysler 300. A 61-year-old man who was driving the Chevy was deceased at the scene. A 25-year-old man who was driving the Chrysler and his 19-year-old passenger survived the collision and were transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
Investigators believe that prior to the crash the Chevy was traveling southbound on Tower Road and the Chrysler was traveling northbound. The Chevy made a left hand turn to go eastbound on Iliff Avenue when it was struck by the Chrysler. Investigators are looking into whether or not excessive speed was a contributing factor in this collision.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time and will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once he has been positively identified and his next of kin have been notified about his death.
The Aurora Police Traffic Section is conducting the investigation into this fatal crash. No arrests have been made and this case remains an open and active investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to call the Traffic Investigations Unit.
Parts of the intersection were closed for several hours while investigators completed their on-scene investigation.

Investigators believe that the Honda Pilot was traveling westbound on Hogan Parkway when it crossed the center line and traveled into the eastbound lanes striking the Toyota Tundra head-on. The driver of the Toyota was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have been a contributing factor in this crash.

The Aurora Police Traffic Section is conducting the investigation into this fatal crash. No arrests have been made and this case remains an open and active investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to call the Traffic Investigation Unit.

(January 17) The Aurora Police Traffic Section is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on North Potomac Street.
On Monday January 17, 2022, at about 7:25 p.m., Aurora Police responded a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of North Potomac Street and East 2nd Avenue.
The investigation has revealed that a man was driving a Nissan sedan northbound on Potomac Street just south of the East 2nd Avenue intersection. The man did not slow for the upcoming red light and rear-ended a Subaru, occupied by two adults, stopped for the red light.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. It does not appear that the driver of the Nissan was wearing his seatbelt and investigators believe that speed and alcohol were also contributing factors. The two occupants of the Subaru suffered minor injuries and were both transported to the hospital.
The identification of the man will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office once he has been positively identified and next-of-kin have been notified.
We ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has dash-camera footage of the crash, and has not yet spoken to police, to contact the Aurora Police Traffic Section.

(January 12) The Aurora Police Traffic Section is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on East Colfax Avenue.
On Wednesday January 12, 2022, at approximately 6:25 a.m., Aurora Police responded a crash near the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and North Havana Street.
When first responders arrived, they observed an adult male in the roadway. This man was suffering from apparent traumatic injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. A vehicle was not immediately located on scene and officers began interviewing witnesses. Through their interviews, officers learned that this man might have been struck by an RTD bus. Officers were able to confirm this information with surveillance cameras in the area.
After reviewing the video footage, the man is seen exiting the rear doors of the bus. The man suffers what appears to be a medical issue, collapses to the ground and falls under the bus. The bus, after passengers were done exiting and entering the bus, pulls away from the stop not knowing that the man was underneath. The bus continued their route and was later tracked to Union Station. Officers responded to Union Station to contact the driver and bus and later found evidence linking the bus to the tragic incident.
Aurora Police Traffic Investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors, but the driver of the bus volunteered and submitted to a blood draw to rule out any impairments.
The identification of the man will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office once he has been positively identified and next-of-kin have been notified.
We ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has dash-camera footage of the crash and has not yet spoken to police to contact the Aurora Police Traffic Section.

(December 30) The Aurora Police Traffic Section is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on East Iliff Avenue.
On Thursday December 30, 2021, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Aurora Police responded a rollover crash near the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and South Elkhart Street.
When first responders arrived, they observed an Acura sedan resting on its roof, still occupied by the driver, a 28-year-old man. Tragically, this man was pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger of the Acura, also an adult male, was able to crawl out of the vehicle but was injured and transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The adult female driver, and only occupant of a Chevrolet SUV, was treated for her injuries on scene.
The Aurora Police Traffic Section responded to the scene and is handling the investigation of this crash. Initial information from the scene is that the Acura sedan was traveling eastbound on East Iliff Avenue, approaching South Elkhart Street. The driver made an unsafe lane change, causing the rear driver’s side of the Acura to strike the front passenger side of the Chevrolet SUV. This impact caused the Acura to lose control, spin into the center median, where it then rolled onto its roof. It is believed that the driver of the Acura was not wearing a seatbelt, which we believe contributed to his death.
Aurora Police Traffic Investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors. Part of their ongoing investigation will determine the speed of the Acura at the time of the crash.
The identification of the driver will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office once he has been positively identified and next-of-kin have been notified.
We ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has dash-camera footage of the crash and has not yet spoken to police to contact the Aurora Police Traffic Section or the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.7867. By using Crime Stoppers, tipster can remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

The front seat passenger inside of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital with a broken leg. The driver of the Ford was not injured.

Alcohol consumption by the driver of the Nissan is believed to be a contributing factor in this case. He remains hospitalized due to his injuries.
The identity of the adult female passenger is not being released at this time and will be made public by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once she has been positively identified and her next of kin have been notified.

(November 6) The Aurora Police Traffic Section is investigating after fatal motorcycle crash on East Mississippi Avenue leaves one adult deceased.
On November 6, 2021, at approximately 7:50 p.m., the Aurora Police Department responded to a crash at the intersection of East Mississippi Avenue and South Blackhawk Street. Officers located an uninjured man driving a tow truck that had been involved with a motorcycle. The man riding the motorcycle was pronounced deceased on scene.
Aurora Police Traffic Investigators determined the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on East Mississippi Avenue just west of South Blackhawk Street. Witnesses stated that the driver of the motorcycle began driving down the center of the lanes between vehicles stopped at the red light, also known as lane splitting. Witnesses stated that the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and wasn’t slowing down for the upcoming red light. The tow truck was facing westbound on East Mississippi Avenue. The tow truck driver proceeded to turn left on a green arrow onto South Blackhawk Street when the motorcycle struck the broad side of the tow truck. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be additional contributing factors for the tow truck driver.
The identity of the passenger will be released the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once a positive identification has been made and next-of-kin have been notified.
This remains an active investigation. We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has dash-camera footage of the crash, and have not yet spoke to police, to contact the Aurora Police Traffic Investigations Unit or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.7867.
