The Aurora Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early Monday morning in District 2.

At 6:11 a.m., Aurora 911 received a call about a woman lying on the ground near the intersection of East Smith Road and North Sable Boulevard. When officers arrived, they learned the woman was deceased.

The woman, who has not yet been identified, had an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The woman’s identity and official cause and manner of death will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office following notification of next of kin.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Homicide Unit closed the intersection for several hours Monday to collect evidence. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

If you have any information about this shooting, please call Det. Knight at 303.739.6982 or Det. Graw at 303.739.6213. Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who was in the area of East Smith Road and North Sable Boulevard between the hours of 4 and 6 a.m. Monday. 

Tips can also be made by contacting Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.7867. Tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000 and may remain anonymous.
