(April 14) The Aurora Police Major Crimes Homicide Unit is announcing the arrest of a 20-year-old after a man dies following a shooting this afternoon.

On April 14, 2022, about 3:24 p.m., the Aurora Police Department responded to the area of South Laredo Street and East Dartmouth Avenue on reports of a shooting. Officers located a 19-year-old man inside of a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. This man was transported to the hospital and tragically pronounced deceased about two hours later. It was initially reported to officers on scene that the man shot himself.

Detectives from the department's Major Crimes Homicide Unit responded to the scene and will be conducting this investigation. Detectives interviewed numerous people and collected evidence on the scene, to include a handgun. During these interviews, it was learned that the victim was shot by someone else in the vehicle while they were in the parking lot located at 17090 East Quincy Avenue.

Detectives have arrested 20-year-old Kevin Altamirano (9/21/2001) and charged him with manslaughter. A booking photo is below. This case will be prosecuted by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The Major Crimes Homicide Unit is asking for anyone who witnessed this, and have not yet spoken to police, to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers by calling 720.913.7867.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release the victim's name after positive identification and notification of next-of-kin.
