(February 23) On Monday, February 22, 2021, at about 2:54 p.m., Aurora police officers responded to a traffic crash on East Exposition Avenue and South Havana Street.

The initial traffic investigation has revealed a commercial trash collection vehicle was stopped in a westbound lane of East Exposition Avenue waiting to make a turn into the northbound South Havana Street lanes of traffic. As the traffic light turned green the commercial trash collection vehicle made the right-hand turn. At this time an 85-year-old male on a bicycle began to cross South Havana Street westbound using the crosswalk and was struck by the commercial trash collection vehicle. The bicyclist was transported to an area hospital where tragically he succumbed to his injuries today, February 23, 2020.

The driver of the commercial trash collection vehicle remained on the scene and was cooperative. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors to the accident.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office after a positive identification has been made, and his next-of-kin has been notified.

We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash, has dash cam footage, or if you have any information about this incident, please contact the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
