Fatal crash (1)
On September 16th, 2016, at about 11:15 PM, Aurora Police Officers responded to a crash on the highway.  The investigation revealed that a grey 2008 Honda Civic was travelling northbound on I225 in the 200 Block north at a high rate of speed.  The Honda lost control, drifted into the center median and rolled several times before coming to rest.

Both occupants had to be extracted from the vehicle by Aurora Fire Department personnel.  The driver was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.  The front seat passenger was also transported to an area hospital.  The passenger later died.  There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

At this point, alcohol does not appear to be a factor.  Traffic detectives will review this case to determine what, if any, charges are applicable against the driver.  No information on any of the occupants of the vehicle is being released at this time.

The Aurora Police Department would like to remind drivers that speed is causal factor in nearly half of the crashes in the City of Aurora.  Adhering to the speed limits greatly reduces the risk of being involved in a crash.
