APD Investigates Fatal Stabbing, Suspect Arrested 
UPDATE: The Aurora Police Department Major Crimes/Homicide Unit is announcing an arrest in the fatal stabbing on East Colfax Avenue that left one man dead the evening of April 17th, 2019.

Matthew Nagel (DOB 01-04-1991) was arrested for Murder in the First Degree (CRS 18-3-102).

In order to protect the integrity of the prosecution of the case, the Aurora Police Department is unable to provide any further details at this time. Further media inquiries will be referred to the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Information Previously Released on April 17, 2019:


On April 17th, 2019 around 07:59 P.M., officers responded to 9801 East Colfax Avenue on reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male that was suffering from a stab wound. Officers attempted to provide life saving measures and the male was immediately transported to the hospital. Tragically, the male has succumbed to his injuries.

While canvasing the area for evidence, witnesses, and suspects, a male was located and is being considered a person of interest. This male is currently being questioned about his involvement. He has not been officially arrested and his identity is not being released at this time.

Positive identification of the victim, and notification of the next-of-kin, will be done by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

The Aurora Police Department Major Crimes/Homicide Unit is conducting the investigation. We ask anyone who was a witness, or has information about this homicide, to please call Aurora Police Agent Heath Graw at 303-739-6213. Tipsters can also remain anonymous, and be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000 by contacting Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).
