(June 2, 2021) On May 17, 2021, around 5:54 p.m., Aurora Police Officers responded to the Flying J, located at 16751 East 32nd Avenue, on an injured person call. An adult male was transported to the hospital after falling backwards and hitting his head in the parking lot of the business. This male was later pronounced deceased on May 20, 2021.

The Adams County Coroner later performed an autopsy and has since ruled this death a homicide. Following this determination, detectives with our Major Crimes Homicide Unit has been investigating this case. The victim has been positively identified as 72-year-old Kevin Stymiest.

Investigators have determined that an argument in the parking lot led to a physical altercation between the victim and another adult male. During the fight, the victim was punched and fell backwards which is when he suffered the fatal injuries. The other male involved in the altercation is cooperating with the investigation and we are consulting with the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office for potential criminal charges, if any. This other male will not be identified at this time.

Anyone who might have information on this case, that has not yet spoken to detectives, is asked to submit an online crime tip by going to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers or calling 720.913.7867. Tipsters can also remain anonymous.

(June 2, 2021) On Monday, May 31, 2021, the Aurora Police Department received a report pertaining to allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct involving a suspect, Enrique de Jesus Carrillo-Rivera (DOB: 07/02/2002), a classroom monitor who was employed by the Aurora Public School District and worked at Vaughn Elementary School.

Investigators are still working to investigate this matter. At this time, limited information is being released as to protect the integrity of this very active, open investigation. Aurora Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Detectives are investigating this incident as well as seeking any information about potential victims that haven’t been reported involving Carrillo-Rivera. The Aurora Police Department is working closely in conjunction with the Aurora Public School District.

On June 1, 2021, Carrillo-Rivera was arrested and booked into the Aurora City Jail on the following charges: Internet Luring of a Child and Internet Sexual Exploitation of a Child. Carrillo-Rivera is no longer employed by the Aurora Public School District.

It is possible that there are additional persons who may have been victimized by Carrillo-Rivera and have not yet reported it. The Aurora Police Department is asking anybody who is a witness or has information about circumstances surrounding this investigation to please call the Internet Crimes Against Children Tip-Line at (303) 739-6164. If there are any additional victims who are wishing to report to police, they are asked to call Police Dispatch at (303) 627-3100 immediately.
